human rights

Serious involvement in the criminal justice system invariably brings human rights issues into sharp focus. Lawyers at BOE LAWYERS have been challenged by the important human rights issues when they have arisen and have sought to foster discussion of what more can and should be done by lawyers in relation to domestic, national and international issues where these issues are exposed. See, for example, our publications page.  Our work in respect of the indigenous community on Palm Island is a further example of our lawyers taking some practical steps in line with our sense of justice.

Without wishing to be too earnest, we believe that 'it's not just how you view the world that matters, it's how you act...'

Some of our lawyers have been involved with human rights organisations - e.g. the International Commission of Jurists and Australian Lawyers for Human Rights - and convened discussions on restoration of the rule of law in East Timor and Burma, the plight of indigenous Australians as well as the poor and how they confront the criminal justice system.  See also the work of some of our lawyers with the Lawyers information Network: | LiNK
